Every Situation is an Opportunity to Impact

Around 7 years ago, right after I left my corporate job to focus on building DIG, I took a two day per week PE teaching job 45 minutes from the room I was renting. I didn’t own any property, I didn’t have a successful business that could sustain the high expenses of Connecticut and the PE teaching position barely paid enough to cover the gas to get to the school. But, I was finally free of my corporate job and I was determined to say yes to every opportunity until I figured out what worked. I went to this small Catholic school and they told me that I could do my thing, just keep the kids active. I put my own spin on being a PE teacher. This morning, I got this text from one of the students that was in middle school at that time and now goes to Embry-Riddle University, studying aeronautical science with two minors in air traffic control and global conflict studies, aiming to graduate a year early next spring while also working at dutch bros coffee. That school shut down a year after I taught there due to low enrollment but I still see several of the kids around town and we always have a good convo. Getting a message like this is a reminder that every situation is an opportunity to impact someone’s life in a positive way. Check out my student’s message to me in the pictures attached.
