Coach Shawn Parker

Early in 2018, Coach Shawn joined DIG chess as a student. After competing in a couple of tournaments, his USCF rating was 502. By January of 2019, Coach Shawn’s rating had increased to 1246. He took 1st place in the U1250 division at the Boston Chess Congress Tournament, finishing with 4 wins and 1 draw, and 0 losses.

Coach Shawn started teaching for DIG Chess in 2019 at the East Hartford Homeless Shelter. He has also coached several DIG chess players at various CT tournaments.

Coach Shawn is the Head Coach for the Greenwich Library, New Canaan Library, Bridgeport DIG Chess team and other groups that practice online once a week. Additionally, he teaches individual chess lessons.

Currently, Coach Shawn’s USCF Rating is 1304. He attends the University of Connecticut, majoring in computer science. He is well-known for sharing his story, with students all around Connecticut, of how being a chess player positively impacted his life.
