The DIG History class covers military history, battles and campaigns that rarely make it into school classrooms. DIG History hosts five-week sessions, including an in-depth analysis and overview of battles and campaigns that have taken place during America’s biggest wars that most people have never heard about. From the lesser known battles of Iraq and Afghanistan, to America’s secret war in Laos and Cambodia. The class is led by Coach Tom who served in the US Army from 2005 until 2014. Tom encourages the students to speak and bring information to the table. He will also seek out guests to make the classes even more interesting. This history class is an opportunity for students to share their knowledge, gain new knowledge and make friends.
DIG History is lead by Coach Tom Thresher:
Tom Thresher served in the US Army from 2005 until 2014.

He was a commissioned officer who graduated from the University of South Carolina and served predominantly with the 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum, NY.
In 2013 Tom deployed to Afghanistan as part of an eight man advisor team partnered with the Afghan National Army. While in combat Tom was awarded the Combat Action badge, Army Commendation Medal, and Bronze Star.
After achieving the rank of Captain, Tom left active duty in 2014 and became a police officer in Fairfield, CT where he served on the SWAT team until his retirement in 2022. He now tutors at several schools in Bridgeport for DIG USA. Tom also leads the DIG History program, using his experience and knowledge to create a realistic learning environment for the students.

What people say about DIG History classes:
By a current student:
I enjoy this class because I am learning a lot of new, detailed information about history that I don’t learn about in school. I like that it is interactive and that I can ask questions or make comments, and that we sometimes have guest speakers. I am learning a lot about what went wrong in history and it helps me think about current events and how things can repeat. I really recommend this class!

By a parent, Jessica Noyes McEntee:
My 13-year-old son had read a lot about WW2 on his own, but he’s found these classes to be incredibly stimulating and engaging. They’ve covered a lot of ground in their discussions and go in-depth on important issues.
By a parent, Amanda Smith:
Your group has and continues to mean so much to him and in all honesty I think has saved his sanity during covid and our move to Florida. We have moved many times during Jupe’s life and I think this group has given him a place and friendships that have transcended the changes and uncertainty he has faced in other areas. That is before I even think about the knowledge and confidence he has gained being part of this. He has already set his mind on studying history at University and he had a love for this subject that amazes me every day. I am so thankful he has and is a part of your wonderful group. I am also incredibly grateful for the relevant discussions you facilitate outside of history that children need from someone that is not a parent and that they can relate to and respect. You do that so well. I could not wish for a better Mentor than you have been to him..
